Scatter plot
The figure below is a "scatter plot." It shows the relative distribution of two variables. To do a scatter plot, you need to have measures of both variables for each object. For example, the scatter plot below shows the customer's age (in years) against the number of past transactions the customer has made with our firm in the last five years. Each plotted point represents one customer in the sample.
The purpose of a scatter plot is to visually portray the relationship (if any) between the two variables. This scatter plot shows a pronounced relationship (and a lot of noise around that relationship) between age and frequency of purchase.
